Cartier Ronde Solo W6701004

This offering is the small Ronde Solo watch in Stainless Steel, and is suitable for wear wherever you may be. Unless of course you are free diving or doing something requiring a highly specialized watch to do without destroying the watch.

Cartier Ronde Solo Small

Simple. Attractive.

This isn’t to say this is a fragile creature. No shrinking violets here, this watch’s housing is crafted from stainless steel. The band is also made from the same legendarily sturdy material. The dial face is protected by scratch resistant Sapphire Quartz. The crown is set with a synthetic spinet cabochon–a classically Cartier styling. Not to be left out of this steel on steel pattern, the hands are stainless steel swords for carving up the day into manageable slices.

The face of the watch is pleasing to the eye with a silvered opaline dial face that blends nicely with the other stainless steel construction. The hands of the watch are blue, which provides nice contrast.

The hours on the face are marked in two rings. The outermost ring is marked with bold black Roman Numerals. The inner ring is marked with a GMT scale–which is to say it counts off the other half of the hours per the 24 hour clock standard. Mercifully, this is done using Arabic numerals–no doubt in part because the only thing worse than a tiny XXIV (24) would be a tiny XVIII (18). This is to say nothing of how terribly cramped such numbers would be.

Aside from that, how well versed in Roman numerals are you? I imagine the average person would find no use for them, so they are wisely replaced with their more readily read counterparts. One might argue that the outer ring could have been done in Arabic numerals as well. We’ll just give them a look, and shake our heads sadly.

Another lovely feature is the hidden deployment clasp. This type of clasp is the sort of detail that really sets the big boys apart from the cheaper offerings with similar aesthetic appearance in an immediately recognizable way. It provides a nice continuous band where cheaper watches would be interrupted by an ugly and ungainly clasp mechanism.
